According to the DRM, a rear collision occurred between the Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train and the Visakhapatnam-Ragada passenger train, leading to the involvement of three coaches. Rescue operations are currently underway, with the local administration and NDRF being informed for assistance and ambulances. Accident relief trains have already arrived at the site.

According to Biswajit Sahu, CPRO of East Coast Railway, 11 individuals have lost their lives and 50 others have sustained injuries. The primary focus at present is on restoring the tracks, as the rescue operation has concluded. Stranded passengers have been provided with buses and trains, with a total of 18 trains cancelled and 22 trains diverted. The aim is to clear the track by 4 pm today.
