The exciting Diwali 2023 festivities are just around the corner, starting off with the auspicious Dhanteras. This special day, also known as Dhantrayodashi and Dhanvantari Trayodashi, marks the beginning of the Diwali celebrations. It is considered a perfect time for new beginnings, as well as an opportunity to purchase gold, silver, new utensils, and other household items. Dhanteras falls on the 13th lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin or Kartika. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Dhanvantari, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, was born during the churning of the milk ocean holding a pot full of amrita (immortality nectar) in one hand and Ayurveda in the other. He is known as the Hindu God of health, healing, and Ayurvedic medicine, and was given the responsibility of spreading the knowledge of Ayurveda to the world. It is interesting to note that Dhanteras is also recognized as National Ayurveda Day.

history of Dhanteras:
On the auspicious day of Trayodashi, it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean during the Sagar Manthan, also known as the churning of the milky sea. Alongside her, Lord Kubera, the God of wealth, also appeared. That is why both deities are worshipped on this special day. It is worth mentioning that Lord Dhanvantari was the final deity to emerge during the Sagar Manthan, when the Devas and Asuras were churning the sea to obtain the nectar of immortality, known as Amrit.
