Why Oregon can cover
The Heisman Trophy race has been a tight one all year, with Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. in the lead for much of the season. Although Penix has done nothing to diminish his case, Oregon quarterback Bo Nix heads into the weekend as the odds-on favorite because of an astounding run of efficiency. The Auburn transfer was once criticized in his early seasons in the SEC for sometimes reckless decision-making, but the senior has had no such trouble this year with the Ducks. Nix has completed 78.6% of his passes for 3,906 yards and 37 touchdowns against just two interceptions.

What’s more, Nix has improved as the season progressed. He has registered double-digit incompletions just twice this season and hasn’t done so since the Week 7 loss to Washington. He has thrown for a minimum of 367 yards in each of the past four weeks, with the high mark coming against USC with 412 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the 36-27 victory.
